December 10, 2007 Dear Friend:
Thank you for visiting the Web site of the Cathedral of the Holy Angels. I hope you will soon plan to participate in a liturgy at our Cathedral, especially a major diocesan liturgy such as the Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday, the Christmas Vigil Mass, an Ordination Mass, or the Anniversary Mass for Married Couples.
Holy Angels Cathedral is a very powerful symbol of who we are as Catholics in the Diocese of Gary. In represents the union which we have with one another in Christ. Pope Paul VI described the importance of a Cathedral this way: "The Cathedral should be regarded as the image of Christ's Mystical Body, whose members are joined together in an organism of charity that is sustained by the outpouring of God's gifts."
Because the Cathedral Church is the center of the liturgical life of the diocese, we celebrate all the main events within the liturgical year here. While all Catholics belong to a parish, all Catholics can also claim the Cathedral as their very own. Catholics from throughout the diocese fill the Cathedral for key celebrations such as those mentioned above.
We are very proud of the Holy Angels Cathedral and I pray that you will find inspiration from the virtual tour that follows.
Through the intercession of the Holy Angels, the patrons of our diocese, may you grow ever deeper in faith, hope, and love!
Sincerely yours in the Lord Jesus,
Most Reverend Dale J. Melczek Bishop of Gary
